Menopause and Loss of Teeth

Recent research reveals that more than 25 percent of post-menopausal women are at risk of losing teeth. A study published in Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology examined more than 1,000 women who had undergone menopause, and nearly 300 of them lost a tooth during the five-year study. The tooth loss is believed to be related to hormone deficiencies and osteoporosis, but women who are overweight, smoke, have poor oral health or diabetes may be at an ever greater risk of losing teeth.

Loss of teeth can affect your oral health. Your remaining teeth may be more likely to shift out of alignment, and they may be more at risk of tooth decay and gum disease. The loss can also affect your self-esteem. Losing teeth can leave your smile with unattractive gaps and holes. You may be able to minimize your risk of tooth loss during and after menopause by maintaining excellent dental hygiene. Brushing after meals with fluoridated toothpaste, flossing daily and eating a balanced diet can keep your teeth and gums healthier. Visiting your dentist twice a year can help you stay on top of any dental problems that do crop up. A healthy diet is essential to providing your teeth and gums with the nutrients they need to stay healthy.

DON’T PAUSE, an all-natural menopause relief supplement, can also help. It has green tea extract, papaya, DHEA, black cohosh and other ingredients designed to help balance your body and reduce bothersome menopause symptoms, including osteoporosis and loss of teeth.
